Stamford
in full bloom
Five minutes
in company with Keep Stamford Beautiful director, Rick Myers, is
enough to influence even a jaded observer to appreciate the beauties
of this city. His enthusiasm and vision are contagious, and the
idea behind the upcoming "Stamford in Bloom" city wide garden contest
is both inspiring to all who choose to enter their front yards for
judging, and ultimately, enhancing to the appearance of Stamford
through a most positive form of community project.
Rick describes
the event, which will comprise a large part of the growing season
this year from the kick-off May 11 until the final award ceremony
on August 15, as "a beautification project that encourages Stamford
residents to enhance the look of the city, promote a wider use of
flowers, trees and shrubs in our neighborhoods, increase civic pride
through an annual competition and win prizes for doing so!"
For the first
year of what will be an annual event, "Stamford in Bloom" will kick-off
in grand style on May 11, the Friday before Mother's Day. "Goods
from the Greenhouse," a plant sale and garden expo in Columbus Park
will welcome 30 vendors from all parts of New England with a diverse
array of plants and garden accessories. Birdhouses, orchids, garden
sculptures, ornaments and more will tempt the eye and inspire gardeners
through out the city to try their hand for the contest prizes.
Completed entries
are due on Friday, July 13 and information about "Stamford in Bloom"
as well as entry forms can be found at Keep Stamford Beautiful,
