Grant to Springdale
To the editor:

As representative of the Springdale Neighborhood Association, I would like to take this opportunity to applaud and thank Mayor Dannel Malloy for the implementation of the Neighborhood Beautification Grant Program, which he initiated two years ago. Created to provide individual neighborhoods the funding to improve and beautify their areas, this innovative program has done great things for Springdale.

Our association applied twice for grants. First, we were able to purchase carved and painted "Welcome to the neighborhood of Springdale" signs from a local business and install them at four entrance points to our community. And most recently we were able to contract with a local business to design and plant two wonderful gardens at the entrance of Springdale Park. We hope everyone will come by to see and enjoy these newly completed gardens.

Thanks must also go to Rick Myers, director of operations of Keep Stamford Beautiful, for his selection of Springdale as a recipient of the grants. The Springdale Neighborhood Association volunteers work hard to make the community the best it can be - and receiving the grants has provided us with the opportunity to complete projects that our budget would not have ordinarily allowed.
